WELCOME TO NYAKAMBE WEBSITE
Nyakambe is a Company Incorporated in Kenya. It’s involved in the Marketing of Maasai artifacts from the Maasai local community.The Maasai community members have skills in Carving, Embroidery/Weaving, painting, Sculpture work and Pottery. This Cultural knowledge of the arts and crafts has been passed on from generation to generation is important for any meaningful development to be realized.
This is one of the means of that local people can earn a living. It is also a way of cultural exchange with the local and the international community. By marketing the products made by Maasai , Nyakambe is able to:
• To enhance cultural heritage at the local levels
• To create employment through cultural knowledge
• To curb idleness by engaging the people in meaningful work.
• To encourage interaction and exchange of artifacts thus restore a sense of community togetherness.
• To encourage peaceful co-existence through the sharing of skills
• To promote self help initiatives to help in development.
• To Train people to use their cultural knowledge of arts and craft in Carvings, Embroidery/Weaving, Painting, Sculpture work and Pottery to create employment for widows and orphans , thus become self reliant.
The project aims at using cultural knowledge of carvings, embroidery/weaving, painting, sculpture work and pottery to create employment and curb idleness. In carving, community members produce artifacts by cutting wood into different shapes of statues and portraits. Embroidery/weaving involve making decorative additions with needlework to produce baskets, bangles, earrings, rings, necklaces, sandals, belts and mats.
